Supporting refugees & vulnerable families

Get Rid of and Donate and Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers in December 2020 trialled open access for refugees living in temporary housing - 'Open House' - provides donations of all kinds of clothes & shoes, toys, books, and household items and redistributes to the acute in a sustainable way,  refugees referred from Barry House, temporary accommodation for settled migrants in East Dulwich, come along to St Faith's Community Centre to access our services. We also have refugee families who are experiencing hardship referred through schools as part of our community partnerships to access good-quality donated items.

Since the establishment of ‘Open House,’ we extended our support to over 800+ refugees & asylum seekers in South London reaching out with outreach support and aiding with essential living items visiting locations to redistribute adults’ and children's clothing, shoes, toys, and books. We have built on our relations with diverse groups of people and families who have entrusted us and have hope that we can provide assistance. We have also created our ‘Kultural Kitchen’ supported by Syrian and Turkish refugee women, they come to the community centre and prepare native and cultural meals we share with our other vulnerable families. We are bringing our communities together with equality, so that we treat and understand our service users, and our dedicated volunteers welcome and assist with a smile.
