At GROAD, we believe waste is just misplaced opportunity. Through donation-powered projects and a grassroots circular economy, we give everyday items a new purpose and in the process, uplift lives. From a donated coat warming a rough sleeper, to a toy finding a new home with a refugee child, everything we do starts with one simple idea: nothing useful should go to waste when someone else could use it.

Redistribute. Reuse.
Rebuild Lives.

What We Do

What You Give Changes Lives.

Happy Team Posing

From providing essential life bags to rough sleepers, to supporting families through our eco-shop (ShoptoDonate), feeding communities with Kultural Kitchen, and empowering schools through our Pass It Forward project everything we do creates circular, compassionate impact across South London.

Our work bridges sustainability and community support. Whether it’s collecting clothing, distributing essential life bags or running our eco-community shop, we’re not just passing on goods. We’re restoring dignity, reducing landfill and reshaping what giving can look like.

Our Circular Economy Model

GROAD CIC Portait Images.png

We retrieve pre-loved goods from homes and businesses instead of letting them go to waste.

Collect

All donated items are sorted by category (clothes, shoes, toys, etc.) and made available to our service users.

Redistribute

Items are given a longer lifespan - for example, children’s books and games are passed on to schools and nurseries that need them

Reuse

By keeping perfectly serviceable items out of landfill and avoiding new consumption, we save resources and cut pollution

Reduce Waste

Everyone can benefit - donors feel good about recycling, volunteers gain skills and recipients get essentials they otherwise couldn’t afford

Empower Communities

Supporting Refugees & Vulnerable Families

At GROAD, we believe everyone deserves dignity, safety and a sense of belonging, especially those rebuilding their lives in a new place.

In partnership with Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers, we launched ‘Open House’ in 2020, a warm and welcoming space where refugee families living in temporary housing can access essential donated items such as clothing, shoes, toys, books and household goods. Families referred from Barry House (East Dulwich) and local schools are invited to attend our sessions at St Faith’s Community Centre, where our volunteers offer tailored support with compassion and care.

Since launching this initiative, GROAD has supported over 800+ refugees and asylum seekers across South London, regularly visiting communities and centres to redistribute adults’ and children’s clothing, toys, and books.

Through this work, we've built lasting relationships with diverse families who trust us to stand by them in times of need. To further deepen this connection, we introduced ‘Kultural Kitchen’, a community-driven initiative led by Syrian and Turkish refugee women. Together, they prepare traditional meals to be shared with other vulnerable families, creating moments of joy, cultural pride, and unity.

At the heart of it all is human connection, our volunteers, donors and partners coming together to serve others with empathy, warmth and equality.

I just wanted to say a big thank you for your kindness and sensitivity when you came to collect my late mother’s items. It was such a difficult task for me, her whole life was in that flat. On each of the three occasions we met, the team at Get Rid Of and Donate were reliable, gentle, and deeply respectful. It was incredibly reassuring to know her belongings were going to such a good cause. She would have loved that.
